FAQ
Frequently asked questions related to this project.
The section of the route between the Allan Water bridge and Millhill Drive in Greenloaning is formed as an embankment and includes a large number of structural elements. The path design for this section is considerably more technically complex and will have a much higher cost to build. After discussions, it was recommended that the council progress this section of the design.
You can suggest alternatives which we will consider. A number of alternative routes were developed and subsequently discounted due to non-compliance with funder and council requirements.
Active Travel Investment Fund (ATIF) is one of the funds available by the national government to support positive step change towards promoting walking and cycling routes. The fund is one of very few options available to the council to pay for new walking and cycling infrastructure.
The Ardoch Development Trust is committed to investing in the local community. This project was identified through the Community Action Plan (2021) and the trust have chosen to take this forward.
Thank you for looking at the project. This is the first community engagement event in relation to this project. Further engagement events will be held during the detailed design stage of the project.
The decision to progress the project is dependant on funding for design and construction. PKC are a key stakeholder.
An outline cost estimate indicates that the scheme (phase 1) would cost around £1.2 million. Their are many factors that will effect the final price and the cost estimate will be continually refined as the design develops.
There is no certainty that any design will be built until technical design has been completed and funding for construction has been secured. If funding for the project continues, construction could start by 2028.

A shuttleworking system is required to ensure users of the scheme can safely cross the Allan Water Bridge and junction at Gentle Croft.
Traffic signals are a design requirement, due to the proximity of pedestrians and cyclists to the road.
Yes, we appreciate that the community have raised concerns with the noise and discomfort created by the raised table. The proposed priority measures will be more effective in controlling vehicle speeds with less noise and vibration impacts.
PKC wont accept or support a new bridge being constructed along the route, their support is crucial to ensuring the project progresses into the next stages.
Network Rail and the PKC have both strongly discouraged the change of the existing bridges. The cost for any change to the bridges would be prohibitively expensive.
